Where has the summer gone???
I cannot believe it is already September and I can sadly write that I did not take one vacation in three whole months! Time most definitely flies. I was able to take some nice day trips this summer though, and on one of those trips went consignment store shopping with my mom in the East Bay. I was able to snag some real jewels like this Equipment blouse for only thirty dollars and also my vintage Ferragamo purse. When I saw this beautiful bag, I knew immediately that this was a special piece--my eyes enlarged and my jaw dropped as I examined the bag and then its price tag. Forty dollars?
Yup, done and done.
This summer I also discovered my new favorite brand: Frame Denim. I have purchased designer jeans in the past, but never have I paid the original price. I just couldn't justify the idea of spending 200+ on a pair of jeans. However, when I tried on this pair of distressed denim jeans, I knew that I needed to leave with them in my hands. I've already worn them enough this summer to know that my money was well spent. I also love the message behind this brand: the idea of bringing together heritage and quality to create a chic wardrobe essential. They are simply wonderful and extremely comfortable.
(In some culottes nonetheless)
It only seems fitting to come back on trend. Culottes: a pants/shorts hybrid once fabeled to be more rare than a skort pre-2011, is now this season's must-have bottom. Obviously this is also old news, but I am just getting back so forgive me!
Trend-wise these pants feel do-able. They kind of look like the also trendy midi skirt, they hide fupa, *and* I can make really awkward stances whilst singing "Drunk in Love" (more specifically "SURFBOARDT"--see above photo). A win-win if you ask me.
I've already styled these culottes a few different ways. Here I opted for a Helmut tee because most days I really can't be bothered to care more than this. Luckily the whole draped look really worked in my favor. Finally, I finished things off with lots of rings and a pop of print with last Summer's "it" Zara sandal. Voila!
Better late than never, right?
Adrienne and I had the pleasure of working with some fab friends on this shoot. Dominic, our amazing photog, our girl Jackie on the hair, and we cannot forget Kayla's makeup skills! They make up the trio Onestone Wedding Artists. It's always awesome to collaborate with people you know, even if it's just for fun!
While everyone else was on top of things, I of course could not take things seriously after about 5 minutes of shooting. I'm weird enough in a Canadian tuxedo with Adrienne behind the camera, let alone a little entourage, and a tattered plaid maxi dress. Nonetheless everyone was down to get silly pretty early on, so we were quickly "Rolling With The Homies".
This look felt like a no-brainer. I often throw on whatever I feel like, and challenge myself to new ways of doing the ordinary. Shooting with this group was a lot of fun because I got to do my usual thinking-outside-the-box schtick with some more dramatic pieces from my wardrobe.
