poo-pourri
I decided to make potpourri, and it smelled like shit.
I love to cook, and I happen to like keeping things clean. I even consider myself to have decent-taste when it comes to decorating, or sprucing up my apartment. However, Martha Stewart I am not. I envy those who can get crafty--like yarn-wrapping vases, or concocting curtains out of macrame. You’re like real-life Pinterest. Do you get how cool that is?
But here at StyleBFFs we’re all about experimentation--even outside of what we wear. So I took it upon myself to try my hand at making my own potpourri. It didn’t turn out too well, but at least the photos are cute. Here are my tips on making your own:
What you need:
*fresh petals
I used tulips and peonies.
*some citrus
Lime and lemons ova here!
*herbs
Tip: Use fresh ones. I think this might have been where I went wrong. I also probably went overboard with the amount too.
*essential oils
I happened to have tea tree oil, but it’d be cool to mix a couple of different ones. Actually, take that advice with a grain of salt. I’ve already mentioned that I suck at this.
Once you have these items, give them all a nice gentle mix on a parchment paper-lined baking pan. Heat the oven to 100°F, and place the mixture inside. Let everything kind of bake and dry out, about an hour or so. You want the mix to have lost its moisture, but not be burnt. Make sure to keep your eye on it! Once things are finished, add your poo-pourri to a mason jar, and you have something terrible to stink up your living-space. Voilà!
