just a girl

just a girl

Just a girl.

Like any 90s bb, when No Doubt's "Tragic Kindgom" album popped up on my iPod this past week, I've been unable to shake it. Lately I've been especially exasperated by female stereotypes, and the burden it puts on us as women. There are countless rules about what to wear, when to wear it, how to dress like a "lady", and even where you can go without being harassed for what you look like. (Cue the Rush Limbaugh slut shaming clips.)

It's frustrating, right??

These feelings of discontent may further stem from the fact that I have obviously shaved my head, and let go of my own notions of what it feels like to look "pretty". However, I sense (sorry to sound cheesy) that I've always been

"just a girl"

whoever I'm allowed to be--not necessarily who I am.

The moral is: chop it!

Even BeyoncĂ© is doing it.

(and if Queen B is doing it, chances are you should definitely do it too! )

Feeling androgynous

Undoubtedly, with the season of fashion (currently NYFW, and soon PFW, MFW, LFW, etc., etc.), Adrienne and I have been discussing individuals and trends that currently have us swooning.

I'll let Adrienne share her own. (Her's are reeeeally good, and I'd be a bad StyleBFF if I spilled the beans!)

This outfit: Chambray: Forever21, Boyfriend Jeans: JBrand "Aidan Slouchy", Boots: Jeffrey Campbell "Desmond"

For me, my current musings lie in androgyny.

I plan to Leandra Medine/Man Repel my way through the next few seasons. Clearly starting with some head-to-toe color blocking, boyfriend jeans, and a freshly shaved head!

Happy fashion weeks, and most importantly happy dressing!
