sheer
There are many uncomfortable things we’ll do for fashion, and this isn’t one of them. Here we are interpreting summer’s sheer dress trend. Sheer has been everywhere on the runways, and now it's really hitting the social media waves. We even blogged about it here and HERE (!!)
Total transparency: we love this look.
(see what we just did?)
The old adage “same same, but different” applies. We’re always headed to the same party, but our approach to the look is always a bit different. Luckily we bond over our mutual penchant for print/texture clashing, odd shapes, and the theory that ten wrongs do in fact make a right. Our close proximity via our homes, our jobs, and our shared rising sign has led to us dressing like one another more frequently. Plus we’re cheesy, and we love the whole “twinning” thing.
AKL: You have to be creative when layering with sheer. To be honest, I've found that this is not an easy trend to take on. We blogged about it well over a year ago, and we're only now seeing it being commercially adopted. To that point, I wanted to wear an outfit that was simple in its core, but elevated in its approach. What's more basic than a tank top and denim mini skirt combo for a summer afternoon? Nothing new there, but after layering in a sheer dress, your entire look is next level. I always enjoy a playful mix-up of textures, and this fit was no exception.
JG: Let’s put this sheer thing to work. My overall concept unsurprisingly revolves around wearing as little clothing as possible. This also oppositely and invariably brings forth my need to wear as many layers as possible. Lo and behold sheer is actually quite perfect for this. I started with my new favorite Daily Sleeper sheer dot dress as a base, and my forever favorite front-hook bralette. Bike shorts & active shorts have been everywhere, so of course I’m jumping on the bandwagon. This pair is by Outdoor Voices; they’re super soft, unfussy, and millennial pink. My period panties are layered underneath because nature required it. Finishing things off are a crepe de chine blazer, fur mules, and some Gucci-esque sunnies--which I bought on the streets of Bangkok for $1, ahem.
